DON’T BLOW IT ALL UP & DISAPPEAR … YET
THE WEIGHT OF IT ALL
Lately, I’ve noticed something in nearly every conversation I have.
People aren’t just tired—they’re bone-deep exhausted.
It’s not just the day-to-day busyness, but a kind of fatigue that runs deeper.
A world-weariness.
The burden of holding so much—fear, uncertainty, collective heaviness—while still trying to keep up with everything on your plate.
And let’s be honest: trying to push through exhaustion with sheer force does NOT work.
When you're running on empty, no productivity hack is going to fix it.
You can't "grind" your way out of depletion.
You can’t outwork your nervous system.
And yet, the conditioning runs deep.
We’ve been taught that when things feel shaky, the answer is to do more.
Push harder.
Achieve something to feel a sense of control.
But what if the opposite was true?
What if, instead of tightening your grip, you loosened it?
What if, for 90 days, you experimented with something radically different—choosing flow over hustle?
The 90-Day Flow Experiment: A Case Study
A while back, I worked with a client (let’s call her Sarah) who was done.
On paper, she had everything—an executive role, a team that depended on her, a full life outside of work.
But she had hit the kind of exhaustion where even small decisions felt impossible.
She came to me saying, “I just don’t have the energy anymore. I feel like I’ve been running a marathon for years, and there’s no finish line in sight.”
Her first instinct?
To quit. Burn it all down. Move to a cabin in the mountains and disappear (which is actually what I did the first time I burned out, but I know it’s not realistic for everyone …)
So instead of making a drastic change, we tried something else.
For 90 days, Sarah committed to a personal anti-hustle experiment.
She didn't quit her job. She didn’t check out completely.
But she stopped forcing.
She let go of the pressure to be hyper-productive, over-available, and endlessly striving.
Instead, she leaned into energy management—allowing herself to do things when she felt most naturally inclined instead of pushing through when depleted.
What happened?
Her brain fog started to clear.
Her creativity returned.
She became more effective at work, not less—simply because she stopped draining herself with unnecessary effort.
She stopped resenting her life and started enjoying it again.
By the end of the experiment, she didn’t want to burn it all down anymore.
She just needed to learn to stop pushing and allow herself to function in a way that actually worked.
How to Run Your Own 90-Day Flow Experiment
This isn’t about dropping all responsibilities and burying your head in the sand. It’s about shifting how you show up.
Here’s a simple framework to try:
1. Stop Ignoring Your Exhaustion (It’s Data, Not a Flaw)
If you’re feeling drained, don’t push through it—get curious. What’s depleting you? Where are you overriding your own natural rhythms? The first step to flow is noticing where you’re not in it.
2. Swap Productivity for Energy Management
Instead of asking, “How much can I get done today?” ask, “How do I want to feel today?” Prioritize actions that give you energy over those that just tick off a to-do list.
3. Say No More Often
Overcommitting is a hustle habit. Give yourself permission to opt out, take a pause, or renegotiate commitments that feel like too much.
4. Build Your Emotional Resilience
Right now, the world is loud. Chaotic. Draining. Having personal rituals and tools to regulate your nervous system is essential. (I’ve put together the Emotional Resilience Toolkit with the core practices that will help you reset, so you can actually function from a place of calm rather than freakout.)
5. Find What Actually Restores You
True restoration isn’t just collapsing in front of Netflix at the end of the day. For me, one of my FAVE go-to recovery rituals this winter has been my infrared sauna blanket from HigherDose. The experience of deep, full-body warmth melts away tension and helps my nervous system reset. Plus, their products are HSA and FSA eligible, which is a nice bonus for those of you with under-utilized benefits packages.
What If Flow ACTUALLY Works Better Than Hustle?
I know this goes against everything we’ve been taught.
We’re conditioned to believe that if we just try harder, we’ll finally get where we want to go.
But what if the thing you’re looking for—ease, energy, clarity, joy—actually comes from doing less, not more?
Try the experiment. Give it 90 days.
You might be surprised by what happens when you stop forcing and start flowing.
